July 18, 2008 3:15 pm

Well, we have officially had our first major set-back of this long process. Laurie's carbon dioxide numbers increased throughout the night and at about 1:00 am she was put back on the vent. She continues to be on the vent today with pretty high settings. The doctors started an IV and antibiotics in case infection was the cause of the high carbon numbers. However, she is not showing any physical signs of infection and we are still waiting on further testing results. When she was put back on the vent, all feedings were stopped, but this morning Dr. Carlo ordered feedings to resume at 6cc every 3 hrs. Laurie still weighed 1lb. 5oz. last night.

This has been a difficult day, but the doctors and nurses have reminded us that this is very common for preemies her size and age. We were told when she came off the vent that 2/3 of all preemies have to go back on at some point. So we knew this was a possibility. We are proud that she was able to stay on the C-pap for so long. We already know that Laurie is very strong-willed and will overcome the vent again!...she just needed to rest a little!

Please pray specifically for Laurie's lungs to not collapse any further and for her to come off the vent again as soon as possible. Also, that there is no infection found. Please pray for Todd as he travels to Birmingham this afternoon.

Have a great weekend!
Love,
Todd, Leah, Cole, and Laurie

Greetings from PCB,
We are thinking of you all and praying faithfully that Gods will for little Laurie Anne be done. I know that the set backs can really frustrate you. Remember to "try" and get some rest, because she needs a strong Mommy. Even though Bre was only 7 weeks early, I remember so many of the same things happening with the vent, c-pap, and oxygen hood. We were back and forth until one day she hit that "sweet spot". I know Laurie Anne will get there. "Patient's is a Virtue", but we are human and most of us are lacking in that area. Keep positive and know that you have such a strong support system. We love you and hope to see you soon.
Love,
Dawn

This is Ginnie Sue who came to see you last week and bring some preemie things. Just know that we are all praying for you to feel God's awesome arms around you and Laurie Anne. Leah,
We are praying for you and I am checking your blog to give reports to our Sunday School class each week. We have been collecting money to help you with meals and gas. Tell me the best way to get it to you. This Sunday will be the last collection and Monday I will have everything ready to go. You can email me at shannon.p.smith@us.army.mil or call me on my cell at 334-494-2753 I don't mind meeting Todd anywhere to give it to him. Stay strong and rest on those normal days. Your family is being lifted up to God by more people that you can imagine. Please draw strength from that and know that you will have a wonderful testimony like Rob and I have as a tool to reach other young couples for Christ.

I know you are going through an
incredibly hard time right now. But
let me say how much I admire you
both for how strong your faith has
been, and how you've given praise
to God for every victory along the
way. Laurie comes from very strong
stock on both sides of the family.
She is a fighter! Your heavenly
Father created Laurie and has an
excellent plan for her life and
her future. And He loves you both
so very much. Keep on trusting that
He has brought her this far, He is
going to hold her and help her grow
through this in peace. He loves her
and He loves you!!! He put each
doctor and nurse in this facility
for such a time as this, and they
are quick to respond correctly to
her every need. Fall back into His
arms. He will do to depend on. We
are all praying and believing for
you all and Laurie. We are inspired
by your faith. Keep on trusting in
God. Love, Nancy

Hey! Well, I haven't been able to check the blog for about a week b/c we were out of town. However, I have been keeping up through Aunt Laura!! Laurie Anne is still being lifted up in my prayers, as well as the rest of your family and Laurie's team of healthcare providers. What a fighter!! I am looking forward to seeing Cole in a couple of weeks at Big School! I know he is so excited! Remember, that I am there everyday if you need any help with him. I know today will be a better day for Laurie Anne!
