July 22, 2008 5:00 pm

Hi from Birmingham! Well, so much for being able to blog by lunch everyday! Our daily schedule is now being set by Laurie and the RNICU!!!

After a 1:00 am wake up call from Laurie's doctor stating that they had to re-intubate her with a larger tube due to her right lung still not getting enough oxygen, I was anxious to see her this morning when the doors opened at 8:15 am! When the doctor called me this morning she reassured me that Laurie was doing much better with the new tube, but I had to see her for myself! When I got here she was resting peacefully and her vent settings were lowered with her tolerating them well. The nurses have discovered that Laurie does better when all routine procedures are done at one time, so not to aggravate her. They are now referring to her as a "touch me not", since she seems to de-sat more often when she is being moved to take vitals, diaper changes, feedings, etc... She did gain 1 oz. last night and now weighs 1 lb. and 7 oz. I was able to stay with Laurie until about 9:45 am when they closed for another baby that was sick. Unfortunately, this was before the doctors had rounded on Laurie and they remained closed until 4:20 pm. I have been able to talk with her nurse throughout the day by phone, but have not been able to see Laurie very much today. This is just one of the frustrations of the RNICU! Yet, it also helps us realize that we are truly blessed to have another day with Laurie! We have witnessed so many families that are experiencing terrible sorrow and loss the past few days. Please continue to pray for Laurie, the other babies in the RNICU, and the doctors and nurses who are caring for them all! We are so thankful for all of you who are checking in daily on Laurie and for all of your prayers!

Love,
Todd, Leah, Cole, and Laurie

I am so sorry for all you are
experiencing. We will be lifting
up the other families of babies there, as well. Hold fast to your
faith. I am glad Laurie's little
lung has opened back up, and I am
having faith that God is working
through every hand that touches her. I remember that Drew could not
handle much stimulation or touching, either. We'll pray that
she will tolerate those necessary
touches and that she'll thrive when
you guys hold her. I feel the need
to mention this same scripture again, that we had in church last
night about praise being our strongest weapon.
"You shall not need to fight in
this battle; take your positions,
stand still, and see the deliverance of the Lord(Who is)with
you...Fear not nor be dismayed."
II Chronicles 20:17

I can tell God's peace is all over
you. But if you ever feel like you can't go another day or like you
can't even pray or believe, just
know that there are sooooo many of
us lifting you and Laurie and the whole family up all throughout the day and night. And let God's grace
carry you, like Baby Moses in that
woven basket, just float along.
We love you all! Nancy & family

Leah,
I have been reading your blog daily since the day you started it and we have been praying for all of you, especially that beautiful baby girl. Your unrelenting faith continues to give me strength and inspiration. We love you and can't wait to see all of you together in church very soon, where together we all can give God the glory and praise for all that you and your family have overcome.
God Bless You! You are an amazing mother!

One ounce at a time is good and soon Laurie will be in her "terrible twos" and Cole will be trying to get away from her! Look ahead for better days but be thankful for every day we are given.

Leah,
We enjoyed our visit with you and Laurie yesterday! My heart just breaks for you and the hurt you are dealing with daily. BUT, your strength and faith reminds me of how blessed I am to have such a strong, big sister! You are an outstanding mother and a great role model for your three younger sisters and many others! Remember we are praying for you all throughout our days without you here with us!
We Love You and Miss You!

Good Morning Killingsworths!! I had the privilege of meeting your dear mother yesterday. I work at Holly Hill and your sister was working in her room and there was your mother..I introduced myself and that I had been following the blog..and she just flooded with stories of her sweet grandchild Laurie Anne! I could tell that she was so proud and very confident that this is all going to work out and that God is in Control! We laughed about how the updates take a while sometimes..(which is totally understandable) but does make some of us worry! I am so relieved when I get those awesome updates! Long post here..but we do love you guys and are praying for Laurie Ann's strength, continuing healing and for all of you there with her!

My thoughts and prayers are with you everyday. Wish I were closer so I could be of some help. Was excited to see that she had gained another ounce!! I fell like she just needed a little rest and the vent is giving her that. Hope this is a good day for all of you. Try to get some rest.
Love you, Judy
